Fees and timing
Weekend and after-hours fees
Nights and weekends cost you rest and family time. A clear after-hours fee is separate from a rush fee for a shorter deadline.

Short answer
Should freelancers charge a weekend fee?
Yes, if the client asks you to work nights or weekends. State an after-hours premium, for example 50% on top of your normal rate, or a fixed weekend block fee. Put it on a written change order before you start. Rush is about a shorter deadline; weekend fees are about when the hours fall.
Why after-hours is its own line
Rush shortens the calendar. After-hours changes when you work.
You can have both: a shorter deadline and weekend hours.
When it applies
Client asks for Saturday delivery or evening calls that replace daytime work.
Stakeholder reviews only available after 18:00 in your time zone.
You already offered a daytime plan and they refuse it.
Simple ways to price it
Premium on hourly rate. For example, 1.5 times your normal rate after 18:00 or on weekends.
Fixed weekend block. For example, €300 for up to four weekend hours.
Percentage add-on on a fixed change. For example, 20% when the work must fall on a weekend.
Write it on the change order
Name the window (evenings, Saturday, Sunday). Name the fee. Say work starts after written approval.
Pair with rush fee if the deadline also moved.
